Your Students Want to Know About YOU!

Your students want to know about you. They want to know that you are a real person. They want to know that you really don't live in that desk-filled box at the end of the hall on the other end of their lockers. You do actually go home every night and have a life outside of school, just like they do. Show them! It helps them connect to you. We ask our students to share things about themselves. It is ok to share things about us. Share the things you like, share things from your travels, share things about yourself. The fact that you hate snakes but think spiders are cool can get you a long way. The fact that you prefer to climb a mountain because you are afraid of creepy, crawly, swimmy things that lurk beneath the water may make a lasting connection. You never know, that one, small, apparently insignificant detail may be the gateway to reaching a child that otherwise, you may have missed.
